Interesting story today on Network World, about a Botnet that attacks other Botnets. According to Symantec, the Zeus Botnet is the most common Botnet on the internet. It works by infecting machines, then stealing data off of the system. The infection stays on the machine and allows a command and control computer to log keystrokes, view what you’re looking at, change what you’re looking at and even wipe out your operating system when the hacker no longer is interested in your machine. The video above is an overview of the Zeus Botnet by the Symantec Security Response Team.
The new Botnet, “Spy Eye” tries to steal the data from a Zeus infected PC and then removes the Zeus infection, so Spy Eye has sole control. Hackers offer these Botnet for sale over the internet for anywhere from $500 to thousands of dollars. All of these threats are an important reason to keep your anti-virus programs up to date.
